unconventional arrangements
of unusual music
| What sets Triskele Books' settings of public-domain music apart from
all other arrangements? First, the attention to readability in layout and
design of each page, allowing the performer to move from section to section
in the most natural and unstrained way possible. Secondly, the equal attention
devoted to authenticity and research of melodies usually lumped together
as "traditional" with no backstory or context provided for the musician
interested in the culture from which their music hails. Extensive research
is done towards determining the age and origin of every tune, and extensive
performance of each layout ensures not only the utmost accuracy, but the
maximum ease in performance and sight-reading as well.
Every tune is made available in two keys, allowing greater flexibility for performance on different instruments, and lots of white space is left around each line not only for readability, but also so that musicans can easily add their own grace notes, chords and other comments. Pages are printed on one side only, to minimize distracting show-through. Wire comb binding allows pages to lie completely flat, pre-empting the extreme distraction of pages closing in the middle of performance. Some of the selections are quite obscure and difficult to find anywhere else — this is particularly true of the medieval and renaissance compositions — while others are available for the most part only in massive anthologies not arranged for optimal reading at all. Each collection has been carefully chosen to combine both well-known and obscure melodies, but always the primary consideration for including any piece has been the individual beauty of a song. At present, all of the printing, binding and fulfillment of orders is handled via CafePress. The ordering pages may be accessed by clicking on the cover image of each title shown below. Please note that although the tunes themselves are old enough to be out of copyright, the individual typeset arrangements of them are themselves copyright to the respective arrangers. Please do not make further copies of these books to avoid paying for the work done in creating them, as they are priced quite low for sheet music and every effort has been made to give good value for the musician's money. |

The Falcon's Song Twelve traditional bagpipe tunes arranged for amateur performance suitable for various folk instruments 32 printed pages, wire-bound ppbk. trim size 9.25" x 7.5" Price: $10.50 +$6.00 shipping |
The Falcon's Song is essentially a Highland Games companion, a sheet music book for fans of the pipes who do not have the ability to play that instrument, but would like to learn the traditional marches and laments on their own preferred musical instruments. This collection includes most of the most-frequently performed tunes, transposed into keys suitable for penny-whistle, soprano/tenor recorder, and fiddle. Historical notes give the provenance of each piece, with the earliest discovered publication date, and surrounding annecdotes when interesting stories could be found; musical notes define the tune structure and point out aspects of emphasis for performance.
